LG GT540 Android 1.6 Touch Screen Wifi GPS 3MP Camera Unlocked Quad Band Phone

LG has unleashed new android Smartphone named LG GT540 Optimus. LG Optimus has nice design and beautiful appeal. The Optimus runs on the Android 1.6, but the LG has made some enhancements to it. The optimus features 3MP camera, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G, Wi-Fi, 3” touchscreen, social networking, impressive battery, and more. Read the full review to find out more.
The Optimus looks pretty attractive with nice curved edges. The body is made from high quality plastic, which contributes to overall design.  It measures 109mm tall, 54.5 wide and 12.7mm thick. It weighs around 150g, quite heavy in hand. It is solid phone and offers better sturdy grip.
The LG Optimus is equipped with 3 inch resistive touchscreen that has a resolution for 320 x 480 pixels and supports 256K colors. Usually resistive touchscreens are not as snappy as capacitive touchscreens. However, the responsiveness is decent for resistive touchscreen category. The sun legibility is very poor and the screen is bright, colorful and crisp. The accelerometer takes care of the automatic UI rotate. The onscreen keyboard is neatly designed and provides better typing experience.
Below the display, touchsensitive back and menu keys are present. Home key, the call and End/Power keys are present below the touchsenstive buttons. A Standard 3.5mm audio jack port is situated at the top of the mobiles. The hot swappable microSD card slot is present underneath the battery. You can add microSD up to 16GB. A 3.2MP camera with no flash is present at the back of the mobile. Volume rocker is present on the left spine. On the right spine, the microUSB port, camera shutter key and search key are present. We don't have any gripe with these hardware buttons.
The Optimus runs on the Android 1.6 operating system and revised version of S-Class user interface. You will find three buttons: call, menu and messaging at the bottom of the homescreen. You can customize homescreen with widget, folders and shortcuts. You will get room for seven homescreen to accommodate your widgets. You can choose among default vanilla android and LG home theme via Homescreen selector. Apart from standard Android 1.6 widgets, LG has included extra SNS ones: messaging, Twitter, Facebook. UI is very quick and intuitive too. You can import contacts from twitter, Facebook and Bebo and stay with your friends.
The Optimus has adequate connectivity options. It includes basic quad band GSM/EDGE and GPRS. You can surf the internet via speedy 3G (7.2Mbps HSDPA and HSUPA), Wi-Fi or GPRS. You can avail data transfer via Bluetooth with A2DP or usual USB v2.0. You need to download free Bluetooth File Transfer app from Android to facilitate file transfer through Bluetooth.
The Optimus has built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS support. Google Maps is the standard GPS software on the Optimus. Voice guided navigation feature available only US and UK. The GPS feature supports impressive street view and you can plan your route.
We liked the inclusion of 3.5mm audiojack port. Power Control widget allows you to manage Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth in one touch. It also features Flight mode. Syncing data on this phone is very easy with the help of Moxier Sync app.
Usually, web browsing on the android phone is very easy and comfortable. The Optimus is no exception. The web-browser doesn't support double tap or pinch-to-zoom feature. You can zoom the web pages using screen controls. Sadly, the web browser doesn't support flash. You can't watch flash videos or you can't play flash games. However, the optimus has dedicated Youtube plug-in, which fills this ditch to certain extent.
The other miscellaneous features of the Optimus include decent organizer, vibrate mode, speakerphone, count down timer, stop watch, alarm clock, voice recorder, world clock, calendar, to-do tasks, calculator,  Document and PDF viewer with no editing option, text and multimedia messaging.
There is dedicated app present on the main menu which provides the access to the Facebook, Twitter and Bebo social networking sites you can also alter your status and also seek updates from friends.
You can download tracks, videos, apps, software updates, games, wallpapers and themes from the Android market.
The Optimus comes with excellent multimedia player that supports Xvid and Divx video formats. We are really pleased to see DivX support. However the playback is restricted to the WVGA resolution. Music player interface is almost similar to that of other LG phones. The music player doesn't feature any Equalizer or Visualization. It has the FM radio with RDS feature that has 48 radio channels. The Audio quality is at its best with nice extra thump from Bass and evenly balanced sound. It has 150MB of internal memory.
The LG Optimus is equipped with a 3-megapixel camera that features auto-focus. It captures the images in 2048×1536 pixels resolution. Sadly, there is no flash, which rules out the option of taking snaps in the dark conditions. The camera interface is almost same as the LG Viewty Smart. The camera features face & smile detection, digital zoom and Geotagging. It can capture VGA video at 17 frames per second.
The image quality is not so good. The images appear over sharp and they lack details. We also had gripe with noisy image sensor, aggressive noise reduction and heavy JPEG compression. Video quality is not good either as the videos lack details or appears bit dull. The photo gallery very nice as it provides 3D view of pictures. GENERAL 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
