The Nokia 3720 classic is a new rugged phone from the Finnish manufacturer, designed to resist water, dust and shocks with its tough exterior, whilst still being compact and stylish. The 3720 classic has a high IP (International Protection) rating of 54 to prove its water and dust resistance, but rather than take it for granted, we've decided to put the 3720 through our own grueling tests to determine its toughness. Physical Aspects

The Nokia 3720 classic is a standard candybar handset with a traditional numeric keypad and portrait screen layout. There are also the usual two softkeys, send and end keys, and 5-way d-pad present to keep things familiar. The handset measures 115mm x 47mm x 15.3 mm (4.5in x 1.9in x .6in) and weighs just 94g (3.3oz). This display is a 2.2 inch QVGA (320 x 240 pixel) resolution unit capable of showing 16.7 million colors. The screen's legibility in bright sunlight is pretty average.

The front of the handset is surrounded by a stainless steel bezel that matches the d-pad and camera lens bezel. The rear is clad in touch textured plastic and features the speakerphone loudspeaker, 2 megapixel camera, and the camera flash Led that can also be used as a torch (flashlight). The rear cover locks onto the back of the handset with a metal screw locking mechanism. The whole casing of the phone feels very tough and solid, and the front and all joints in the casing have special gaskets to keep water and debris out.

Behind the battery cover is the 1050mAh battery, beneath which are the SIM card and microSD slots, which both lock closed very securely. There is also a flap at the bottom of the handset that houses the micro-USB port and 2.5mm audio port, with a small hole in it for the charger port. The top and left side of the phone are both blank, and the right side houses only the earpiece volume keys.
